Boone Pickens Stadium Facts

Boone Pickens Stadium, home of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, is the oldest football stadium in the Big 12 Conference. Built originally in 1913 it has been a complete stadium since 1920 but for several years it was neglected and behind standards for football innovation. Part of this neglect came when the Oklahoma State Cowboys went through a lull and had multiple consecutive loosing streaks. Then in 2001 the Oklahoma State Cowboys football team had a great season, beating long-time rivals the Oklahoma Sooners and there was a re-interest in refurbishing the then Lewis Field.

Name Change

In 2003 Lewis Field was re-named Boone Pickens Stadium after a prominent alumni gave a large grant enabling the remodel. The new Boone Pickens Stadium project including changing the exterior to match the rest of the OSU campus, adding new state of the art sound and light equipment, and replacing the stadium turf among other projects that aimed to create a "stadium village". As it stands today the Boone Pickens Stadium seating chart can accommodate 60,218 fans.
